Tax arrears: can your file still be presented?
A need tied to the CRA or Revenu Québec can be presented to commercial lenders, from your statements. The lender decides, and nothing here settles the debt for you.

- Does a GST/HST or QST debt block an application?
- Not in itself. Commercial lenders look mostly at whether the business’s deposits cover the balance and the repayment; the amount requested stays an estimate, and the lender sets its own.
- Which tax debts can be presented?
- GST/HST and QST in arrears, source deductions not remitted, and corporate income tax. The CRA or Revenu Québec remains the creditor; we do not negotiate with them.
- Will the lender see my tax debt?
- Yes. A notice of assessment or a statement of account is requested to describe it, and the lender weighs it in its written offer.
- My bank account is seized: what now?
- A seizure changes the file: deposits no longer go through the account. Talk to us before filling in the application.

- Does the financing settle the debt?
- Not by itself. If a lender makes an offer and you take it, you are the one who pays the CRA or Revenu Québec with the amount disbursed.
What the lender looks at
- Actual deposits, month by month
- The lender compares the tax balance with what the business takes in each month.
- Trend over the period
- Deposits that are climbing weigh more than an old arrear.
- NSF cheques
- A cheque returned to the CRA or Revenu Québec shows in the statements.
- Payments to other lenders
- A payment arrangement already running counts as a commitment.
